Our Meet The Artisans Private Food Tour is a unique opportunity for up to four guests to spend a morning meeting local food and drink heroes, hearing their fascinating stories and tasting their wares. This tour is perfect for foodies and anyone who loves supporting local communities and shopping local. All the businesses we visit are family businesses. This tour takes place in Bruntsfield which is one of Edinburgh's most vibrant and popular neighbourhoods. It has a wealth of independent eateries and boutiques and your guide will make tips and suggestions on places to eat after the tour for any visitors to the city as well as leading you on this fascinating journey.
The tour starts in a brilliant fishmonger. You'll hear about Scotland's bountiful fish and seafood larder from the owner who has run his shop for 40 years. Ever had an oyster for breakfast? Well this could be a first for you! We'll then take a short walk across Bruntsfield Links to a tantalising tea merchant. We'll hear the story of tea as well as its health benefits and how to make the perfect cuppa as we do a delicious sensory tasting. We'll then head to a fabulous French bakery where you'll get to meet the bakers, hear their wonderful family baking story and see them at work. They make a fabulous pain levain - sourdough - as well as superb pastries and cakes. We'll taste the bread and stop here for coffee and pastries. Next we'll visit a traditional local butcher which has been in the same family for 60 years. They make award winning pies and we'll hear from the butchers what's in season and about the different cuts of meat. The perfect finale to our tour is a guided tasting of delicious local gin, special spirit that's not gin and beers which have been distilled and brewed by experts who graduated from a world renowned local brewing and distilling course in an amazing local shop.
This tour is a unique opportunity to get to know some of Edinburgh's most talented artisans.
